Report of the National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities (Ranganath Misra Report)

 

The National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities (NCRLM) also known as Ranganath Misra Commission after its chairman Justice Ranganath Misra was constituted in October 2004 by the the Government of India to recommend practical measures for the welfare of socially and economically backward sections among religious and linguistic minorities.

The Prime Ministers High Level Committee, PMHLC (also known as Sachar Committee) constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, studied and identified the socio-economic and educational backwardness of the Muslim community in India and these findings became a topic of national discussion in India.

The Ranganath Misra Commission was entrusted by the Government of India to suggest practical measures for the upliftment of the socially and economically backward sections among religious and linguistic minorities and to include the modalities of implimentation for the same.

Indian American Muslim group calls on Indian Home Minister to clarify his remarks on Jihad

Indian Muslim Council-USA (IMC-USA: http://www.imc- usa.org) an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, calls on Indian Home Minister Chidambaram to clarify his remarks on Jihad in his address to Intelligence Bureau on Wednesday the 23rd of December, 2009.

According to reports Mr. P. Chidambaram, the Home Minister of India at the 22nd Intelligence Bureau Centenary Endowment Lecture, equated Jihad with terrorism while referring to Crusades as a conventional war. He reportedly also stated that Jihad is war against unbelievers. He also stated that the tactics of Jihadis have been copied by other militant groups including Hindu militant groups.

Indian American Muslim group demands immediate civil and criminal action against all accused in the Liberhan Report

Indian Muslim Council-USA (http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, demands the Indian government to bring the criminals to justice involved in the demolition of the 16th century Babri Mosque in the city of Ayodhya in the State of Uttar Pradesh, India as identified in the Report of the Liberhan Ayodhya Commission of Inquiry that was released recently.

Indian Muslim Council-USA further demands that the Indian government honor the promise given by the former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao to re-build the mosque on its original site.

Liberhan Comission Report Inquiring the Destruction of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on Dec 6th, 1992

After seventeen years, 399 sittings and examining 100 witnesses the Liberhan Comission has submitted its 1000 page report inquiring into the circumstances that lead up to the demolition of the 16th century Babri Masjid in Ayodhya by Hindu extremists on Dec 6th 1992.

The Liberhan Commission Report was tabled in the Lok Sabha, the Indian Parliament on Nov 24, 2009.
