For the first time since the Banda rape case hit the headlines, the victim’s family publicly accused the MLA of rape and the police of threatening the victim inside the jail to spare the MLA. On Sunday, Neelu’s brother visited the mahila jail in Banda to meet his sister for the first time since her arrest. He was accompanied by Rajju – the youth who according to the MLA, had married Neelu.
Though Neelu agreed to meet her younger brother, she refused to meet Rajju. Coming out of the jail compound after meeting Neelu, her brother quoted Neelu as saying that the superintendent of police (SP), Banda, who visited Neelu a few days ago had spent five hours trying to convince, lure and threaten her to withdraw her statement against the MLA.
He told reporters, “Usse kahe ki tumko jitna paisa chahiye woh dilwadenge … phir kahe agar nahi manogi to tumhare pariwar ko nuksan ho sakta hai … aur kahe ki naa manne par uski jaan ko khatra hai (he offered to get her as much money as she wanted if she withdrew her statements. He threatened saying that if she will not agree, her family will be in danger. He also said that the allegations against the MLA will harm only her and no one else.”
