The event will also unveil previously unpublished evidence showing how Indian consulates and the Modi-led BJP government use surveillance and intimidation tactics to silence U.S.-based critics of Hindu nationalism and its policies.\nPanelists\nYana Gorokhovskaia\nYana Gorokhovskaia leads work across several portfolios on the Research and Analysis team at the global democracy watchdog Freedom House. Her analysis has been published in Foreign Affairs, The Guardian, The Washington Post, Politico, Journal of Democracy, Just Security, Huffington Post, among other publications, and she is a leading expert on transnational repression.\nMannirmal Kaur\nMannirmal Kaur is the Senior Federal Policy Manager at the Sikh Coalition, a leading human rights organization that defends the rights of Sikhs and other religious minorities in America to practice their faith without bias and discrimination. She directs the organization’s congressional advocacy work.\nAther Zia\nDr. Ather Zia is a political anthropologist, poet, short fiction writer, and a columnist. She is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Gender Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. She is the author of Resisting Disappearances: Military Occupation and Women’s Activism in Kashmir ; founder-editor of Kashmir Lit and is the co-founder of Critical Kashmir Studies Collective, an interdisciplinary network of scholars working on the Kashmir region.
