Court dismisses pleas seeking to protect historic mosque from Hindu extremists

In a bigoted move, the High Court of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh state has ruled that 18 lawsuits submitted by Hindu extremists aiming to “remove” the historic Shahi Idgah mosque were maintainable. The suits aim to have the mosque destroyed so Hindus can take control over the 13.37-acre property that it shares with the Katra Keshav Dev temple.

Since the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 by a Hindu militant mob and the subsequent construction of a temple on the disputed land, Hindu supremacist groups have been attempting similar demolitions of historic mosques across India.

Hindu militants distribute tridents to over 1,500 Hindu youths

In Morbi, Gujarat, Hindu militant groups Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad distributed tridents, a weapon associated with Hindu tradition, to over 1,500 Hindu youths while urging them to use it to fight against “love jihad” and cow slaughter.

The nationwide arming of violent Hindu supremacists is a cause of concern for the minority Muslim community, who are routinely threatened with mass violence by Hindu extremist groups.

A year after boycott of Muslims in Gujarat, court orders registration of complaint

A year after anti-Muslim violence broke out in a village in Gujarat, a court has ordered the registration of an official complaint against Hindu extremist villagers for boycotting Muslims economically, leading to a loss of livelihood.

Last year, Hindu supremacist groups had circulated video clips with hateful messages against Muslims, after which Hindu locals began boycotting Muslims. The police took no action against the incident and had refused to register a complaint on the matter.
