Cow vigilantes tie up and assault man over alleged cattle slaughter

In Surat, Gujarat, Hindu extremist cow vigilantes tied a man up with a belt and assaulted him over accusations of slaughtering cattle. In a similar incident in Ajmer, Rajasthan, cow vigilantes brutally assaulted a truck driver for transporting cattle.

Hindu militant mobs regularly attack Muslims over baseless accusations of committing crimes. These mobs, also known as cow vigilantes, assault and often lynch Muslims accused of transporting cattle or consuming beef. 

Police in Uttar Pradesh torture Dalit man, use casteist slurs

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahabad detained a Dalit man, Rishipal, and tortured him over a domestic dispute. Rishipal reported that around 1 am, the officials, under the influence of alcohol, asked about his caste and then proceeded to use casteist slurs while kicking, punching, and striking him with sticks. 

“They injured my private parts, and I fainted in the police station,” the victim reported. “When I regained consciousness, they forced me to massage their hands and feet throughout the night.”

Following protests and uproar over the incident, three police officials have been suspended.

Centuries-old mosque demolished in Telangana 

Tensions rose in Telangana’s Moinabad after a centuries-old mosque was destroyed by a private company. Police reported that affiliates of the company believed the mosque was located on land the company had purchased. However, the mosque actually stood on Waqf land — state-owned land dedicated for religious and charitable purposes. Three individuals, including the construction vehicle driver and a realtor, have been booked. 

Hindu supremacist groups place idols in Muslim shrine in Gujarat

In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Muslim residents accused Hindu supremacist groups of placing idols in a Muslim shrine. Earlier this year, the graves in shrine were vandalized, following which the police had booked 37 people. 

In the wake of the Babri Masjid demolition, Hindu extremist organisations have launched a campaign to “reclaim” places of worship held by the Muslim community and convert them into temples. 

Hindu extremists harass Muslim shop owners in Uttar Pradesh

In Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu extremist mob led by Shiv Pratap Singh, leader of Hindu supremacist group Akhand Hindu Rashtra Sena, harassed Muslim fruit vendors to enforce an Uttar Pradesh police directive ordering businesses to “display their names” in front of their establishments as a way to show their religious identity ahead of an upcoming Hindu procession.

However, the Supreme Court stayed the order after opposition leaders, Muslim groups, and rights experts described the directives as “discriminatory” and tools for “anti-Muslim violence.”

Hindu extremist leader says 40,000 youth in Assam have been trained to use guns

In Rangia, Assam, a leader of the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal delivered an inflammatory speech targeting Muslims and Christians. He also claimed that for the past 26 years, the group has been  conducting arms trainings and has trained 40,000 youth to fire guns. 

In Vadodara, Gujarat, far-right BJP minister Harsh Sanghvi promoted the anti-Muslim conspiracy theory of “love jihad” at a public event. In Guna, Madhya Pradesh, Hindu supremacists launched a campaign to promote the anti-Muslim conspiracy theory of “love jihad” among Hindu women. 

In Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu militant leader threatened the violent destruction of a mosque under construction. He also glorified vandalism of a church by Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal.
