CONGRESSIONAL BRIEFING: India Persecutes Religious Minorities: USCIRF 2023 Report

This briefing is being called following the release last week of the Annual Report 2023 by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), an autonomous federal panel that is mandated by US Congress to track global religious persecution.

The USCIRF Annual Report 2023 has recommended, for the fourth straight year, that the US Department of State designate India as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC). The USCIRF report highlights the religiously discriminatory practices of the Indian government on the federal, local, and state levels throughout 2022. These policies attack the right of women to wear hijabs, interfaith marriages, religious conversion, and the very lives and citizenship of religious minorities.
