Hindu extremist mob assaults minor Muslim student, force him to say “Jai Sri Ram”
A mob of Hindu extremists including minor Hindu students assaulted a 15-year-old Muslim student in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Assam’s Silchar. The minor was slapped on the cheeks and head multiple times, made to do sit-ups while holding his ears, and forced to chant the Hindu supremacist slogan “Jai Sri Ram.”
The incident is part of a rising trend of mob violence targeting Muslims in India, often fueled by Hindu extremist groups using social media to glorify their actions and spread communal hatred.
Licenses of 27 Muslim-owned hotels canceled by BJP-ruled Gujarat government
Officials in BJP-ruled Gujarat state have canceled the licenses of 27 Muslim-owned hotels in the state. The decision was followed by complaints alleging that some hotels were using Hindu names to attract a larger Hindu clientele while being Muslim-run establishments. However, this decision is being seen by many within the Muslim community as a dangerous form of religious profiling, aimed at marginalizing Muslim businesses and undermining their right to thrive in a competitive marketplace.
The license cancellations come amid a broader pattern of similar policies in other states, including Uttar Pradesh, where Muslim hotel owners were ordered to display their names on signboards.
Anti-Muslim hatemonger, Babri demolition accused granted India’s highest civilian honor
The BJP government of ruling Hindu supremacist Prime Minister Narendra Modi awarded the Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian honors in the country to Sadhvi Rithambara, who played a pivotal role in garnering support for the illegal demolition of the Babri Mosque in 1992 through her hate speeches. Rithambara is the founder of the women’s wing of the Hindu militant group Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), a group that participated in destroying the mosque.
The BJP government has assiduously been encouraging public figures notorious for making Islamophobic comments and raking up anti-Muslim sentiments across the country. The government has not only been lenient but is seen to be emboldening hate-mongers targeting the secular ethos of the nation.
