Hindu militants threaten violence against married interfaith couple, disrupt ceremony

In Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, Hindu militants protested against the post-wedding reception of an interfaith couple who had just gotten married in the United States, claiming it to be a case of “love jihad.” The protesters demanded that the authorities intervene to stop the event and issued threats of violence at the venue.

In Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, Hindu militants from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal assaulted a Muslim man within a court premises, accusing him of engaging in “love jihad.” The interfaith couple was at the court to marry.

Imam fined over $2300 for delivering Azaan on loudspeaker in Uttar Pradesh

In the aftermath of the deadly violence in Sambhal, a 23-year-old Muslim imam has been fined over $2300 for using a loudspeaker at a mosque to deliver the Azaan – the Islamic call to prayer. 

He was later granted bail and warned not to use loudspeakers for the next six months. Earlier, the police held a meeting with religious leaders, ordering them to refrain from using loudspeakers in places of worship.

Last month, police arrested at least 25 Muslims, booked around 2,500 people, shut down the internet, closed schools, and tightened security in Sambhal after five Muslim men were killed by police. The officers had fired on Muslims protesting a court-ordered survey of the historic Shahi Jama Mosque, a move demanded by Hindu supremacists to check for temple ruins underneath. 

Hindu devotees drag out, assault Muslim student at school

In Telangana’s Hyderabad, a large crowd of Hindu devotees stormed a school, where they dragged out and assaulted a Muslim student while raising Hindu supremacist slogans. The incident was reportedly in retaliation to a scuffle between a Hindu and a Muslim student that had occurred the previous day.

Federal probe agency raids home of Muslim chicken vendor in Bihar

India’s federal probe agency raided the house of Mohammad Aleem, a 45-year-old Muslim chicken vendor, in Bihar’s Sitamarhi. After searching the entire house at 4:00 am, Aleem was taken into custody for interrogation that lasted five long hours. 

Aleem’s wife expressed shock over the entire incident and said, “They mentioned nothing about why this raid was being carried out. They looked at every single corner pillaging our home,  every utensil was checked but they found nothing.”
