Muslim man lynched over theft allegation in Uttar Pradesh
A 27-year-old Muslim man died after being violently beaten by villagers in Uttar Pradesh‘s Saharanpur district. A video of the incident shows the victim, Mohammed Salman, bound by his legs upside down as a group of people repeatedly hit him with sticks.
While a case has been filed against the deceased and his companion, who was also violently beaten, for the alleged robbery, there has been little progress in taking action against those responsible for the mob attack.
Hindu extremists detain, harass Muslim men for carrying buffalo meat
In Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, Hindu extremist cow vigilantes detained two Muslim men carrying buffalo meat and harassed them, claiming they could not carry meat in what they referred to as a “religious city.” The vigilantes acknowledged that it was buffalo meat, but insisted that no meat would be allowed in the city.
In another incident in Haryana’s Rohtak, cow vigilantes, in coordination with the police, attacked a truck transporting cattle and assaulted the driver, accusing them of smuggling cows.
Hindu militants distribute sharp-edged tridents, march with swords
In Assam and Punjab, Hindu militants from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal organized oath-taking ceremonies, where tridents were distributed to attendees who took oaths to dedicate themselves to the betterment of a “Hindu Rashtra” (Hindu nation). In a similar event in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar, Hindu militants marched the streets while brandishing swords and tridents.
The growing push for arming violent Hindu supremacists is a cause of concern for the minority Muslim community, who are being threatened with mass slaughter by Hindu extremist groups.
