Muslim student attacked, labeled “Bangladeshi” by Hindu extremists in train

A 27-year-old Muslim student was assaulted by a mob of Hindu extremists on a train in West Bengal. The attackers punched and kicked him, pulled his beard, forcibly removed his skull cap, and threatened to throw him off the train, accusing him of being Bangladeshi. For nearly an hour, about a dozen people attacked him, despite him stating that he is an Indian citizen.

Officials demolish Muslim shrine in Uttar Pradesh

In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, civic officials demolished a Muslim shrine built on land that they claimed to be government property. The action followed a complaint by Hindu extremist leader Kaushal Kishore demanding its removal.

The demolition of Muslim shrines across India has been widespread. Muslims have accused the far-right government of selectively targeting their shrines under the guise of removing encroachments.

Hindu militants raid food cart over alleged beef sale, seller arrested

In Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, Hindu militants from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal raided a food cart after allegedly discovering it was selling beef. They reported the incident to the authorities, leading to the arrest of the shop’s operator. 

In another incident in Rajasthan’s Banswara, Hindu militants protested a wedding celebration, alleging that guests were feasting on chicken biryani. They called the police, who seized the food, and demanded an investigation into how the school grounds were allotted for a celebration.

Police arrest Muslim man over video call interaction with Pakistani cleric

Police in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh have arrested a 24-year-old Muslim man on charges of “sedition” following a live streamed conversation with a Pakistani cleric.

In a video that went viral on social media, the victim was seen engaging in a discussion with Maulana Mohammad Ali Mirza, a well-known Pakistan-based Islamic scholar. During the conversation, the victim questioned the cleric on his statement regarding Muslims who died due to police firing while protesting a survey of the historic Shahi Jama Mosque, a move demanded by Hindu supremacists. Maulana Mirza had referred to those who lost their lives in the violence as martyrs.
