Muslim students subjected to physical abuse, forced to chant “Jai Sri Ram” by teachers
Several Muslim students from a government-run school in Delhi have accused their teachers of physical abuse and anti-Muslim discrimination.
The students reported that the teachers forced them to strip in the school bathroom, where they were beaten and forced to chant the Hindu supremacist slogan “Jai Sri Ram,” or “Glory to Ram.” Disturbingly, the students reported that the teachers filmed the abuse and threatened to release the videos if the students were to report it.
Some Hindu students have also been implicated in these acts of abuse, as per the victims’ accounts.
Muslim shrines demolished by Hindu extremist mob, civic officials in Uttarakhand
In Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, a Hindu extremist mob demolished a Muslim shrine located within the premises of a school, and live streamed the demolition. Elsewhere in the city, civic officials used a bulldozer to demolish a Muslim shrine overnight, claiming it was built “illegally.”
The demolition of Muslim shrines across India has been endemic. Muslims have accused the BJP government of selectively targeting their shrines under the guise of removing encroachments.
Mob of Hindu extremists harass Imam, claim mosque was once a temple
A mob of Hindu extremists stormed a mosque in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra and harassed the imam, claiming that the site was originally a temple. They threatened to lock up the mosque and demanded to see documents of the mosque’s ownership history.
While the imam asserted that the area was historically a graveyard long before the construction of the mosque, the extremists baselessly argued that it was a temple 100 years ago.
The incident is part of the mounting intolerance of Muslims in Himachal Pradesh where Hindu extremist groups have been campaigning against what they claim to be illegal mosques.
Hindu extremist cow vigilantes stop truck, detain drivers in Telangana
In Telangana’s Hyderabad, Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) stopped a truck transporting cattle and forcibly held two drivers, claiming that the cattle was being taken to a slaughterhouse.
In a similar incident in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, a Hindu extremist cow vigilante leader and his team stopped a truck carrying meat, and claimed it was cow meat. The police later took custody of the truck and the meat.
