IAMC 2026 REPORT: HUMAN RIGHTS AND RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IN INDIA
Our 2026 Annual Report is out, tracking the previous year’s escalations in human rights and religious freedom abuses in India, including through paramilitary violence, hate speech, mob lynchings, targeted property demolitions, attacks on democratic institutions and civil rights, and transnational repression.
The report summarizes recent, comprehensive research on the relationship between state policy and the growing risk of genocidal violence against Muslims and Christians in India, with the goal of informing foreign policy decision-making. You can read the full report here, and our press release summarizing its findings here.

BEYOND THE TAJ: MUGHALS, HINDU-MUSLIM UNITY, AND MORE
Need something engaging and informative to listen to during your commute? IAMC released three new episodes of our Beyond the Taj podcast, featuring Dr. Audrey Trushke on “The Mughals and the Mythmaking of Hindu nationalism”, Arjun Sethi on “Lessons from Sikh-Muslim Solidarity in the Diaspora”,and Ria Chakrabarty on Building “Hindu-Muslim Unity in the Diaspora.”
You can watch or stream these new episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube.

DECEMBER WEBINARS: HIJAB, POLITICAL PRISONERS, AND INDIA’S JUDICIARY
In light of the Supreme Court’s denial of bail to prisoners of conscience Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, IAMC brought together a panel of international experts for a webinar on the crisis of judicial accountability in India.
We also held an online event bringing together activists from the Muslim, Hindu, and Christian communities to speak out against the targeting of Muslim women in India, in light of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s hate crime against a niqabi doctor. You can watch the full briefing here.

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY ON…
IAMC released a statement decrying the Supreme Court’s denial of bail to two Muslim prisoners of conscience, Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, despite the fact that both men have already been imprisoned for five years without trial.
We also strongly condemned the unprecedented wave of harassment, vandalism, and physical violence directed at India’s Christian community during the 2025 Christmas season, which was a coordinated effort by Hindu far-right extremist groups to strike terror into the hearts of worshippers during their holiest time of the year.

CHAPTER EVENTS
IAMC New Jersey proudly celebrated India’s Republic Day with prayers, reflection, and community spirit. The program began with Quran recitation and highlighted the contributions of Muslim freedom fighters through youth speeches. Children and adults enjoyed engaging activities, including painting, quizzes, and Youth Appreciation Awards.
We also joined a number of our partners in Atlanta in organizing an event, “Indians and South Asian Americans: Unite Against Racism” in December, featuring an important discussion on rising anti-Indian racism, and how we can unite in the face of it.
Throughout December, our chapters across the country also hosted fundraising banquets, mobilizing supporters, donors, and the broader community to raise funds to support IAMC’s work in standing up against Hindutva. We couldn’t be more grateful for their efforts!
