The home was built on land given to her by a government welfare scheme aimed at providing housing for the economically disadvantaged. The woman’s family claimed that her house was demolished without any prior notice.
Hindu militants “purify” university after Muslim students offer prayers
At a university in BJP-ruled Gujarat’s Mehsana, Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal staged a protest and recited Hindu prayers to “purify” the place after a clip of Muslim students offering prayers on the university grounds went viral.
Amid the increasing criminalization of Muslim symbols and practices by the BJP government, Muslims across India have faced criminal charges for offering prayers in public spaces.
Hindu militants, police raid Muslim-owned restaurant in Uttar Pradesh
In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, a Muslim-owned vegetarian restaurant was raided by police officials and Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal over accusations that the owner had concealed his religious identity. Officials also sent food samples from the restaurant to a lab for testing.
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh governments issued an order mandating that food establishments display the names and addresses of their owners, in a move that some have described as economic apartheid.
Bangladeshi cricket fan beaten at stadium in Uttar Pradesh
A Bangladeshi cricket fan, Tiger Robi, said he was beaten up by a group of 15 men during the India vs Bangladesh match at a stadium in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. Robi claims he was harassed by the men for supporting the Bangladesh team and later beaten up.
Hindu extremists, BJP leaders and even federal ministers have been delivering anti-Muslim hate speeches while referring to Bangladeshis as “infiltrators” and spreading false propaganda against them.
Police arrest Christians over alleged forced religious conversion
In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, police raided a residence and arrested Christians over allegations of them forcing Hindus to convert to Christianity. In a similar incident in Sujanganj, police arrested Christians over similar allegations after Hindu militants from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal raided a Christian prayer meet.
Christians across states have been arrested under India’s draconian anti-conversion law, which criminalizes conversion away from Hinduism.
