Police open fire at man accused of cow slaughter, victim sustains bullet wound
A man accused of cow slaughter was injured in a police encounter in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. The man sustained a gunshot wound to one of his legs.
The incident is the latest in an ongoing trend of violent attacks against predominantly Muslim cattle traders by law enforcement. Earlier this year, multiple such injuries occurred on a near-weekly basis due to police firings.

Federal government urges shutdown of madrasa in historic mosque in Karnataka
The federal government has urged the Karnataka High Court to instruct the civic administration and the state government to shut down a madrasa operating within the historic Jama Masjid in Srirangapatna, a site designated as a protected monument.
The Waqf Board, opposing this move, asserted that the mosque is its property and defended the madrasa’s operations as lawful.
