Police seize Muslim man’s property worth over $17,000 over cow slaughter allegations

In Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur, police seized a two-story house worth around $17,300 belonging to a Muslim man who was accused of cow slaughter and possessing beef.

Last year, police officials in Uttar Pradesh confiscated houses worth around $30,000, $151,000, and $19,400 belonging to Muslim men over similar allegations.

Muslim-owned restaurants shut down after Hindu militants accuse them of serving beef

In Maharashtra’s Yavatmal, two Muslim-owned restaurants were forced to shut down after Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal accused them of serving beef to customers. Police seized the meat from the premises following the accusations.

Hindu militant mobs regularly attack Muslims over baseless accusations of committing crimes. These mobs, also known as cow vigilantes, assault and often lynch Muslims accused of transporting cattle or consuming beef.

Police arrest 10 more Muslims over anti-Muslim violence in Sambhal, 70 held so far 

Police in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh arrested 10 Muslim men, in connection with the violence near the Shahi Jama Mosque premises. With this, 70 people have so far been arrested in connection with the incident. 

Last year, police booked around 2,500 people, shut down the internet, closed schools, and tightened security in Sambhal after five Muslim men were killed by police. The officers had fired on Muslims protesting a court-ordered survey of the historic Shahi Jama Mosque, a move demanded by Hindu supremacists to check for temple ruins underneath. 

Hindu supremacists claim presence of temple in Muslim-majority area in Uttar Pradesh

Leaders of a Hindu supremacist organization, Akhil Bharatiya Karni Sena, staged protests demanding the removal of alleged encroachments on what they claim to be a 125-year-old temple in a Muslim-majority locality near the prominent Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) premises. 

The group issued a week-long ultimatum to officials to restore the temple and its premises, threatening to forcibly take possession if no action is taken.
