Signboard showing mosque name demolished in Assam
A local municipal corporation in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Assam state demolished a road sign showing the name of a mosque, following allegations by a local Hindu supremacist group that the sign had been “unlawfully installed” to rename the area. Local Muslims have disputed this claim, stating that the sign, which marks the road leading to a mosque, was put up three years ago by the municipality itself.
Muslim woman’s hut demolished in Uttar Pradesh
In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, district authorities demolished a hut belonging to a Muslim woman, calling it an illegal encroachment. The woman, however, reported she has lived in the house for 35 years and possesses receipts for the house taxes she has paid over the years.
In what the BBC calls “bulldozer injustice”, several state governments controlled by the far-right BJP regularly order the demolitions of Muslim-owned homes, businesses, and places of worship as a form of collective punishment and disenfranchisement.
Hindu extremists chant “long live the Hindu state” at an event
At an event in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, Hindu extremist group leader Hrishi Kumar Trivedi urged Hindu attendees to become more organized and attend religious events to intimidate Muslims. Attendees at the event also chanted “Jai Hindu Rashtra,” meaning “long live the Hindu state.”
