257 homes, mosque demolished for temple corridor expansion in Madhya Pradesh

Officials in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain demolished a mosque and 257 homes in a Muslim-majority area, to pave the way for expanding a parking facility and construct a sermon hall as part of the ambitious preparations for a Hindu pilgrimage festival in 2028.

India’s Supreme Court recently banned the weaponization of demolitions as collective punishment against Muslims, declaring that any demolitions carried out without proper notice or legal permission amounts to contempt of court.

The incident is part of a rising trend of mob violence targeting Muslims in India, often fueled by Hindu extremist groups using social media to glorify their actions and spread communal hatred.

In Telangana, a pastor and a group of Christians were attacked by Hindu extremist locals who splashed them with cow dung water, accusing them of attempting to forcibly convert Hindus to Christianity.

Anti-conversion laws across BJP-ruled states have emboldened Hindu extremists, leading to increased harassment of Christians and attacks on their places of worship.
