Anti-Muslim violence over social media post leaves 1 Muslim dead, 8 injured
Anti-Muslim violence folllowing a social media post in Satara, Maharashtra, led to death of a Muslim man and injury of eight others. In response to the post, which Hindu extremists called “objectionable,” a violent mob of over a thousand extremists targeted houses, business establishments and handcarts in a Muslim-majority area. The mob pelted stones, vandalized properties, and set fire to houses.
Muslim scrap dealer attacked by Hindu mob in Rajasthan
In Didwana, Rajasthan, a mob of violent Hindu extremist men brutally assaulted Sabir, a Muslim scrap dealer, using rods and sticks. They also extorted 21,000 rupees ($250 USD) from Sabir as a donation for the village cowshed.
Principal suspended for taking students to mosque as part of communal harmony initiative
The principal of a school in Goa was suspended after he took a group of 11th grade students to a mosque as part of an initiative to promote communal harmony. After the images of students visiting the mosque went viral on social media, the violent Hindu militant group Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) filed a police complaint falsely alleging that the principal, Shankar Gaonkar, forced female students to wear headscarves and perform Islamic acts of worship.
Federal minister calls for violence against those who oppose Hindu supremacism
At an event in Rajasthan, BJP leader and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat advocated for violence against people who speak against Sanatan Dharma, a term that encompasses Hindu religious traditions of pre-Islamic India.
Other hate speeches were also held nationwide.
In Sitamau, Madhya Pradesh, at an event organized by Hindu militant groups, a Hindu supremacist leader delivered an anti-Muslim hate speech. In Pune, Maharashtra, during a hateful rally, Hindu supremacist speakers delivered hate speeches peddling conspiracy theories against Muslims.
Hindu extremist leaders threaten to demolish mosques
In Sonitpur, Assam, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sashikant Pandey threatened to demolish Muslim places of worship, claiming that the courts would side with Hindus seeking to destroy the historic Shahi Idgah mosque. In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a far-right leader threatened the violent demolition of mosques in Mathura and Varanasi.
Incarcerated anti-CAA activist Shadab Ahmad diagnosed with abdominal tuberculosis
Shadab Ahmad, an activist against India’s anti-Muslim Citizenship Amendment Law (CAA), who remains wrongfully detained under India’s draconian anti-terror law, has been diagnosed with abdominal tuberculosis. Ahmad has been incarcerated for over three years, along with numerous other anti-CAA activists over baseless charges in cases related to the anti-Muslim Delhi pogrom in 2020.
