BJP ministers promise to replace mosques with temples
In the capital city of Delhi, BJP leader and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma threatened to build a temple on the site of the historic Gynavapi mosque. He went on to make anti-Muslim remarks during the election rally.
“Muslims are keeping 3 wives each and women get married at 12 years of age and start giving birth,” he said.
In Uttar Pradesh, BJP minister and Hindu militant monk Yogi Adityanath incited Hindus against Muslims, claiming, “Muslims eat beef to tease and insult” Hindus.
Mumbai college imposes restrictions on Muslim students wearing hijab
A college in Maharashtra’s Mumbai has imposed restrictions on Muslim women wearing hijab on campus. Similar restrictions were also imposed in August last year when junior college students were restricted from wearing hijab on campus.
In recent years, several Muslim students have been denied entry into schools and colleges across India for wearing the hijab.
Muslims labeled terror group supporters granted bail over lack of evidence
A court in Uttar Pradesh state granted bail to 11 Muslim men who were arrested in September 2022 over baseless allegations of being involved with Al Qaeda.
The court said that there was “no sufficient ground for taking action against the accused.”
