Hindu extremist mob given “free hand” by police during anti-Muslim violence

In conversation with a news outlet, Hindu extremists who were part of the mob that unleashed anti-Muslim violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich said that they were given a “free hand” for two hours by police officials.

In a hidden camera recording, the rioters could be heard saying that they had freedom to damage anyone and anything during the time but “their own people” deceived them. 

“Some people betrayed us, otherwise we would have devastated the entire Maharajganj,” one Hindu extremist told the reporter, revealing how the riot was “pre-planned”, “sponsored” and “backed by the system.”

BJP lawmaker Balmukund Acharya and his Hindu extremist supporters harassed Muslim women who were offering prayers in Rajasthan’s Jaipur at a shrine (Imambara).

The extremists pulled down the curtains that are used to separate the women’s section, forced female worshippers out, and began inspecting the area for a Hindu idol. They also harassed the imam who was leading the prayers. 

Acharya claimed that the shrine is built on illegal land. However, Muslims have the legal right of ownership to the shrine.  

Hindu extremist mobs attack, vandalize Muslim-owned stores in Telangana 

In Telangana’s Sangareddy, Hindu extremist mobs vandalized and attacked Muslim-owned stores and restaurants during a protest against the desecration of an idol in a temple in Secunderabad. During the protest, the extremists called for anti-Muslim violence, chanting, “Kill those who mess with temples.”

Last month, a mob of 2,000 Hindu extremists attacked Muslim-owned properties in Telangana’s Asifabad over allegations that a Muslim man had sexually assaulted a tribal woman in the district. The mob set commercial establishments on fire and pelted stones at mosques.

19 Muslims, including political leaders, arrested for protesting anti-Muslim post

Police in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar arrested nineteen Muslims, including prominent opposition leaders, for protesting against an anti-Muslim social media post by Hindu extremist and hatemonger Akhil Tyagi.

Just days ago, police booked 700 Muslims for taking to the streets raising slogans demanding the arrest of Tyagi, who had posted an insulting remark that they believed was to “intentionally offend” Indian Muslims.
