IAMC Seattle Strongly Condemns Callous Remarks of Police Officer Following Death of Indian Northeastern student Jaahnavi Kandula
Seattle, Washington (September 14, 2023) – In January of this year, Seattle police officer Kevin A. Dave struck and killed Indian Northeastern student Jaahnavi Kandula. Audio recorded after the accident revealed that Officer Dave later made contact with police officer Daniel Auderer, vice president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, who said that Kandula’s life was “of little value” and said that the city should “just write a check.”
The Seattle Chapter of the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) strongly condemns Officer Auderer’s egregious remarks and demands accountability for this horrific incident of manslaughter.
“Officer Auderer’s remarks express a profound contempt for the sacredness of human life and stands as an affront to immigrant lives in particular. A police officer with his attitude is not fit to serve on any police force, much less to serve as vice president of the entire Seattle Police Officers Guild” said Hasan Khan, Board Member of IAMC Seattle. “We demand a thorough investigation of Officer Dave’s conduct and justice for the family of Jaahnavi Kandula.”
