IAMC Condemns Heckling of Brad Lander at MSG Protest

The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) unequivocally condemns the heckling and disruption that prevented Brad Lander from speaking at Saturday’s protest against RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat outside Madison Square Garden. The individuals responsible were not part of IAMC or our coalition and did not speak for us.

Our fight is to defeat Hindutva and the politics of religious supremacy. That requires building strong coalitions, respecting differences, and working together wherever we share common ground. Insulting or silencing allies undermines that work and is unacceptable.

We offer Brad Lander our sincere apologies for the treatment he received. Brad has been an important ally in confronting Hindutva in New York City and the United States, as have New York City Council Members Shahana Hanif, Lincoln Restler and Julie Won, who stood with our coalition in opposing Bhagwat’s Madison Square Garden event.

We deeply value their solidarity and renew our commitment to working alongside Brad and our other allies in the shared fight against Hindutva, hate and religious supremacy.
