Karnataka High Court rules that shouting “Jai Sri Ram” in mosque is not an offense
The High Court of Karnataka quashed criminal proceedings against two Hindu supremacists, Keerthan Kumar and Sachin Kumar, ruling that shouting “Jai Sri Ram” inside a mosque did not count as an offense.
Jai Sri Ram is a Hindu supremacist slogan often associated with mob lynchings and anti-Muslim violence.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed by a Muslim man, Hyder Ali, who said that the accused entered the mosque, shouted “Jai Sri Ram”, and threatened the community.
Muslim driver commits suicide over police harassment in Kerala
A Muslim auto-rickshaw driver, Yakoob Abdul Sathar, took his life after posting a distressing Facebook live video in which he blamed local police officials in Kerala’s Kasaragod for harassment. His vehicle was illegally impounded by police over a petty traffic offense and the situation had put him out of any earnings.
The police official responsible for the harassment, Anoop, was suspended following evidence of his abusive conduct, even to other residents.
Dalit woman set on fire after filing harassment complaint, BJP leader backs accused
A 19-year-old Dalit woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa was allegedly set on fire by the son of a man she had accused of harassment. She is in critical condition with burns covering 27 per cent of her body. The accused was arrested and jailed the same day but was released on bail.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Mukesh Tanve defended the accused and blamed the survivor, claiming that she had attempted self-immolation due to fear.
Hindu militants brandish swords, weapons in public rallies across India
Hindu militant groups like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal organized weapon worship ceremonies across Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states, publicly brandishing swords and other weapons.
In Nagpur, Hindu extremist leader Praveen Togadia, said that weapon distribution events aim to intimidate non-Hindus and boasted of distributing 400,000 tridents in Gujarat. In one such event in Indore, a speaker mocked and demonized Muslims, referring to them as demons. He urged Hindus to completely boycott Muslims, both culturally and financially.
