Kashmiri civilian killed by Indian army

A Kashmiri civilian, Waseem Ahmad Mir, was killed by the Indian army in Baramulla in what Kashmiri locals and leaders have called a targeted killing.

The incident took place when a truck carrying apple boxes was signaled to stop at a checkpoint, and reportedly did not do so. The truck was then chased for 23 kilometers, after which security forces claimed that they opened fire, targeting the vehicle’s tires. Kashmiri leaders, however, have cast doubt on this story, questioning how aiming at the tires resulted in the killing of Mir.

The aftermath of the incident saw the area being sealed off by officials, and internet services were cut, leading to widespread panic. The incident is also part of an ongoing crackdown where more individuals were reportedly being picked up by officials.
