Mass demolitions in Gujarat leave Muslim families homeless ahead of Ramadan

A day before the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, civic officials in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad destroyed 160 buildings, including two religious structures, in an illegal demolition drive that left hundreds of Muslim families homeless. Residents protested the sudden destruction and lack of notice, while others feared the hardship of fasting amid the devastation. Those who resisted the demolitions were detained by police.

Muslim teen, parents detained, shop demolished over cricket slogans

In Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, a Muslim teenager was detained for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans during the India-Pakistan cricket match. The case was filed after a neighbor claimed to have heard the slogans. The minor’s parents were also arrested, and their scrap shop was demolished by local authorities. All three remain detained. 

Hijab-wearing students turned away from board exam in Uttar Pradesh

In Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, ten Muslim girls were barred from taking their Class X board exam for wearing hijabs. Despite pleas from parents, the school principal refused to allow them in, telling them to remove their hijabs or leave. One student was forced to remove her veil. All the students were sent home without taking their exam.
