Muslim family attacked, three houses burnt in Bihar after elopement incident
In Bihar’s Purnia, a mob of around 100 Hindu extremists stormed the homes of a Muslim family. They vandalized property, torched belongings, and set three houses ablaze over accusations that a man from the family had eloped with a Hindu woman. Despite the woman affirming that she had consented to the relationship, and a court ruling on the validity of their union, the mob accused the man of kidnapping the woman.
Muslim truck driver assaulted by Hindu extremist cow vigilantes
In Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal, Hindu extremist cow vigilantes assaulted a Muslim truck driver transporting cattle, baselessly accusing him of transporting them to be slaughtered. In a similar incident in the capital city of Delhi, Hindu extremists assaulted the driver of a van carrying cattle, accusing him of being a cow smuggler.
Hindu militant mobs regularly attack Muslims over baseless accusations of committing crimes. These mobs, also known as cow vigilantes, assault and often lynch Muslims accused of transporting cattle or consuming beef.
Officials demolish church in Chhattisgarh after BJP leader’s threat
In Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh, a building that was formerly a church was demolished using bulldozers after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Anshu Tuteja had publicly threatened to carry out the demolition himself if authorities failed to act. After the threat, he vacated the church and converted the building into a Hindu community centre.
Anti-conversion laws across BJP-ruled states have emboldened Hindu extremists, leading to increased harassment of Christians and attacks on their places of worship.
