Officials demolish slaughterhouses in Madhya Pradesh

In Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh, civic officials demolished multiple animal slaughterhouses in a move directly targeting the livelihoods of Muslims and Dalits. These discriminatory demolitions have become part of a larger trend as authorities bulldozed meat shops in Ujjain last month, after the state’s Hindu militant group-affiliated Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, declared restrictions on the sale of meat and eggs in open spaces. 

X suspends Hindutva Watch research initiative’s account in India

The X account of Hindutva Watch, a research initiative to monitor reports of attacks on members of religious minorities in India, has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand. The group employs a real-time data collection methodology to track and catalog instances of violent attacks, hate speech, and human rights violations by Hindu nationalists and Hindutva militia groups in India. 

India has become notorious for demanding X to censor scores of accounts, including those of activists and journalists, that are critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the far-right Bharatiya Janata Party.  

Muslim teen spends over 100 days in prison, house demolished over false charges

After his arrest on July 19, 2023, his house was demolished amid beats of drums and speakers playing Hindu devotional songs in police presence. 

Karnataka BJP lawmaker calls for survey of mosques, says they were built over temples

BJP lawmaker Basanagouda Patil Yatnal called for a survey of the mosques in Karnataka’s Vijayapura, claiming that they were built over Hindu Temples. Earlier, BJP lawmaker Anant Kumar Hegde threatened to demolish mosques in the state while demanding “revenge for the past 1,000 years”, referring to Mughal rule in India.
