Officials seal mosque in Haridwar after Hindu militants object to its construction
Hindu extremist groups have objected to the construction of a mosque near Uttarakhand’s Haridwar. Officials sealed the building after receiving a complaint from the Hindu militant group Bajrang Dal.
Muslims have accused the BJP government of selectively targeting their places of worship under the guise of removing encroachments.
BJP government in Uttarakhand flags 200 Madrasas as “fake”
The BJP-ruled government in Uttarakhand has launched an investigation into the operations of madrasas across the state, claiming to have identified approximately 200 “fake” institutions. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the crackdown is aimed at eliminating madrasas involved in “illegal activities or receiving suspicious funding.” Last year, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had declared to close more than 16,000 madrasas over similar allegations.
The investigation has sparked controversy, particularly from the opposition Congress party, which has accused the government of selectively targeting the Muslim community.
