In Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, police raided a Muslim-owned home over allegations of possessing beef. Police did not wait for the meat found in the home to be tested and identified as beef, instead jumping to arrest two men and one woman.
Meanwhile, in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, police fired gunshots at an alleged “cattle smuggler” who sustained bullet injury in his leg. The incident is the latest in an ongoing trend of violent attacks against predominantly Muslim cattle traders by law enforcement. Over the last month, multiple instances of injuries have occurred due to police firing.
Police arrest Christian pastor after Hindu militant leader’s complaint
In far-right BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, police arrested a Christian pastor after a leader of the Hindu militant group Vishwa Hindu Parishad baselessly accused the pastor of forcing Hindus to convert to Christianity.
This incident occurred just a week after Hindu extremists in Rajasthan accused a school of “forced religious conversions” against Hindu students. Subsequent police investigations revealed these claims to be baseless.
Far-right BJP lawmaker continues to threaten anti-Muslim violence in Mumbai
In Mumbai, Maharashtra, far-right BJP lawmaker Nitesh Rane peddled anti-Muslim conspiracy theories and threatened violence against Muslims of Dharavi area.
“Don’t test the power of Hindus in Mumbai,” Rane said. Notably, Hindu extremist mobs violently attacked Muslim neighborhoods in Mumbai last month.
In Jalgaon, Maharashtra, far-right BJP leader T Raja Singh delivered a communal speech at an event organized by the Hindu supremacist group, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.
