Statement from the Indian American Muslim Council on Tragic Ahmedabad Plane Crash
The Indian American Muslim Council extends its deepest condolences to the families affected by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. We are profoundly saddened by this devastating event and share in the grief, shock, and concern felt by the people of Gujarat and the entire nation.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, crashed shortly after takeoff. Tragically, at least 204 lives were lost, and 41 others were injured. A heartbreaking detail is that the aircraft struck the dining hall and a hostel at B.J. Medical College, killing at least five medical students and injuring many others on the ground.
The thoughts of Indian-American Muslims are with the victims and their loved ones. We stand in solidarity with our fellow Indians during this time of immense sorrow, praying for the recovery of the injured and offering our heartfelt support to all those suffering in the aftermath.
IAMC calls upon aviation and safety regulators, airlines, and government bodies to conduct a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation into the crash. It is vital that we understand exactly what went wrong to ensure such a tragedy never happens again.
