25 Delhi Mosques Ready to Host Agitating Farmers as Food Distribution Continues for Second Day

United Against Hate opens kitchens at four locations in the national capital to ensure that ‘no one goes hungry’

NEW DELHI — Distribution of food to agitating farmers through mosques in Delhi continued for the second day on Friday. At least 25 mosques are also geared up to host the farmers for the night stay, according to Nadeem Khan of the United Against Hate (UAH) which has made the arrangements.

He said his organisation was doing everything possible to reach out to the farmers who have come to the national capital with their demand to repeal the three recent anti-farmer Bills.

He told Clarion India that kitchens are working round the clock at four locations: Hauz Khas, Okhla, Old Rohtak Road and Old Delhi. “We are feeding people at these locations. We are also delivering food packets to places from wherever requests are coming. Besides, our vans with food packets are going to places where farmers are found in big numbers,” he said.

The farmers, mobilised by some 500 organisations from states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan had planned the November 26-27 ‘Delhi chalo’ march demanding repeal of the recently-enacted farm laws. Those coming by the land route were stopped on Delhi borders on Thursday.

But in the face of stiff resistance by the ryots, the government gave in on Friday. They were allowed to enter the national capital in the afternoon and escorted to Nirankari ground in Burari for carrying on their protests. But, according to reports, farmers are spotted everywhere in the capital. “We are receiving calls from different places. Our aim is to ensure that no one goes hungry,” he said.

According to Nadeem Khan, UAH has also made provisions for blankets and night stay for the farmers. He said up to 25 mosques throughout Delhi have been lined up where farmers can spend the night. “Our volunteers are ready with vehicles to pick up farmers from wherever they are stuck and take them to the nearest mosque for night stay,” he added.
