Hindu supremacist mob brutally assaults Muslim man traveling on train
A violent Hindu supremacist mob brutally assaulted a Muslim man while he was traveling on a train from the capital city of Delhi. The Muslim man, Asim Hussain, was severely assaulted and forced to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’, a religious slogan turned war cry by Hindu supremacists while targeting Muslims during violence and assault.
He was repeatedly thrashed, stripped, thrown on the floor, and then beaten mercilessly with a belt as he resisted their demand of chanting the slogan.
“They beat me till I almost became unconscious. My beard was pulled and they stole 2,200 rupees from my pocket. Then one of them threw me off the train at Moradabad railway station. I was offered some clothes at the station by a stranger,” said Hussain.
Violent attacks on Muslims and other minorities by Hindu supremacist mobs have escalated since ruling Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014.
Hindu supremacists call for boycott of Muslim traders in Karnataka
Members of Hindu supremacist groups Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have put up a banner calling for a boycott of Muslim traders at a fair in Hindu supremacist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Karnataka state.
“Earlier, the majority of stalls were put up by Muslims. This time, the management of allocating contracts for stalls has been given to the Bajrang Dal activists,” a local said.
The banner states that only Hindus are allowed to set up stalls in an open act of discrimination.
Karnataka state has been the site of several autocratic boycotts against Muslim business owners, including a government policy that bans Muslims from selling wares around Hindu temples. The policy is often encouraged by violent Hindu vigilantes who attack Muslim vendors and destroy their wares.
16th-century mosque bulldozed in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh to widen road
In the latest attack on Muslim places of worship, a 16th-century mosque in Hindu supremacist BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state was demolished by officials.
The historic Shahi Masjid was demolished two days before a court was set to hear the matter.
Earlier, the High Court had dismissed a plea moved against the proposed demolition of the mosque, supposedly for the widening of a highway.
The demolition of this historic mosque is the latest in a nationwide move to erase Indian Islamic history and destroy Muslim places of worship, ranging from local shrines to highly significant historic mosques.
