An environment of violence and gross injustice against the members of the Dalit community seems to be growing in India, with reports of rampant abuse of human rights, perpetration of violence, exploitation and crimes, intolerance against the community seems to have become an everyday occurrence. The Hathras gang-rape incident that captured the national imagination over the last couple of weeks is but an example of the wider culture of systematic injustice and violence being perpetrated on members of the community and much before the nation could recover from the pain and trauma of the incident, two new cases of sheer inhumanity and violation of dignity practised towards the community have again come to light. 1 Killed after BJP Leader Fires into Crowd in Ballia

A youth was shot dead after a BJP leader fired into a crowd in front of local administrative officials over a dispute at a meeting for selection of ration shops in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The BJP leader, Dheerendra Singh, fled from the scene amid a stampede-like situation that followed the firing. The murdered youth was identified as Jaiparakash Pal. The incident happened at Durjanpur village in the Reoti area of Ballia district when the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) decided not go ahead with the meeting due to a dispute between members of self-help groups who had gathered there.…”There can be anything but law and order in the state. Pelting stones, egging on mob during riots: Delhi govt flags ‘police complicity’ videos

On October 5, the Delhi Government’s Home Department flagged a set of seven videoclips to the Delhi Police that include two of policemen purportedly throwing bricks alongside rioters and egging them on during the Northeast Delhi riots. A third shows policemen purportedly making five injured men, lying on the ground, sing the national anthem .… One of the videos purportedly shows groups of policemen carrying arms and batons throwing portions of bricks alongside alleged rioters. The faces of the policemen as well as the rioters are visible. A police outpost seen in the video indicates the site of the incident.…Read more
