Indian American Muslims celebrate India’s 62nd Republic Day
Wednesday, January 26, 2011
Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC – https://www.iamc.com), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguard India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, today, celebrates India’s 62nd Republic Day. IAMC’s chapters across the nation have scheduled festivities and entertaining educational programs for adults, and children.
In order to mark the Republic Day, IAMC has also organized a video and essay contest with exciting prizes such as iPad, iPod Touch and Sony HDTV. Everyone is invited to submit videos and essays at the website: http://republicday.org. The submission deadline is January 28th, 2011.
The Republic Day marks a real watershed in India’s history. By introducing the newly drafted constitution, India’s leaders Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Maulana Azad, reflected the hopes and aspirations of all Indians irrespective of economical status, religion or caste. By replacing the modified colonial Government of India Act 1935 with this great new Constitution, the Secular Indian Government was guaranteeing its citizens the most important thing that mattered – equal rights and equal access to opportunities as well as freedom to all Indians.
IAMC is delighted to note India’s continued economic growth and prosperity. However, it strongly feels that sustainable growth, prosperity and global leadership of a nation are only possible when all of its citizens enjoy equal rights and opportunities to contribute to their country.
“IAMC maintains that ignoring the development of any segment of the population is against both the letter and the spirit of the Indian Constitution. On this auspicious day, we urge the Indian Government to implement meaningful measures for the upliftment of the economically and educationally neglected sections of the Indian population,” said Shaheen Khateeb, President, IAMC.
Indian American Muslim Council is the largest advocacy organization of Indian Muslims in the United States with 10 chapters across the nation.
