Muslim man beaten in front of family, forced to chant Jai Sri Ram

In Kankavli, Maharashtra, a Muslim man was beaten by a Hindu extremist mob, who forced him to chant the Hindu supremacist war cry “Jai Sri Ram.” The victim, Asif, was accompanied by his wife and child, who pleaded with the mob to stop the assault.

Asif says the mob targeted him after they noticed his wife wearing a hijab and realized they were Muslim. After Asif filed a complaint with the police, a mob of about 200 Hindu extremists attacked his home and beat him again. 

Cow vigilantes beat up, strip Muslim driver in Rajasthan

Hindu extremist cow vigilantes beat and partially stripped a Muslim driver and an occupant of his vehicle for transporting cattle in Alwar, Rajasthan. 

Hindu militant mobs have increasingly been targeting Muslims over baseless accusations of committing crimes. These mobs, also known as cow vigilantes, attack and often lynch Muslims accused of transporting cattle or consuming beef. 

Police arrest 90 people including prominent Muslim politicians in Uttarakhand

Police in far-right Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttarakhand’s Haldwani have arrested at least 90 people from a Muslim-majority area after clashes between Muslim residents and police over the unjust demolition of a mosque and Islamic seminary. Five Muslim politicians – Mehboob Alam, Zeeshan, Arshad Ayyub, Aslam Chaudhary, and Jawed Siddiqui – were also arrested. 

Six Muslims were killed by police fire after shoot-at-sight orders were issued amid the clashes. 

Four Christians arrested for alleged forced conversion in Uttar Pradesh

In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, police arrested four Christians over baseless allegations of engaging in forced religious conversion. Last week, police raided a house hosting a Christian prayer meeting over allegations of forced religious conversion. 

Raids on churches and prayer meetings have become common under several Indian states’ draconian anti-conversion laws, which criminalize conversion away from Hinduism.

BJP lawmaker, far-right leaders deliver hate speeches, threaten violence and demolitions

BJP politicians and Hindu extremist leaders continue to spread genocidal hate speech against Muslims across India. In Mumbai, Maharashtra, BJP lawmaker Nitesh Rane amplified anti-Muslim conspiracy theories and threatened the demolition of a local mosque. In Haridwar, Uttarakhand, Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal held a rally playing inflammatory songs advocating violence against Muslims. In Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, Hindu militant group Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Azad Prem Singh delivered hate speech against Muslims and Christians, calling for their conversion to Hinduism.
