Muslim man beaten, paraded by Hindu extremists in Uttarakhand

A Muslim man was beaten and paraded through the streets of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh by a Hindu extremist mob who accused him of molesting and threatening a Hindu girl. The footage shows the victim being dragged through streets with his shirt torn, while the mob shouts the Hindu supremacist warcry “Jai Sri Ram”.

In the state, there have been many incidents where Muslims have been violently targeted based on mere allegations, often leading to a mob attack. Recently, in Tehri, Hindu extremist groups vandalized Muslim-owned shops after reports surfaced that a Muslim man kidnapped a Hindu girl.

Indian Supreme Court declines to entertain bail plea of Muslim activist jailed for over 4 years

The Indian Supreme Court declined to entertain the bail plea of Muslim activist Gulfisha Fatima, who has been languishing in jail since April 2020 for protesting the discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms (CJAR) has expressed significant concerns over the excessive delay in bail proceedings in cases involving Muslim activists like Fatima, calling it a grave violation of  their fundamental rights.

Hindu extremists stop church inauguration in Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh’s Ratanpur, Hindu extremists opposed the inauguration of a church, accusing the local Christian community of a conspiracy to convert Hindus to Christianity, forcing the church to cancel the event. In a similar incident in Ambikapur, Hindu extremists disrupted a Christian prayer meeting over similar allegations.

Attacks on churches have become common under several Indian states’ draconian anti-conversion laws, which criminalize conversion away from Hinduism.
