Muslims portrayed as criminals in university’s cultural event

A cultural procession organized by a university in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- ruled Assam’s Kokrajhar included a stage act demonizing Muslims. In the skit, a person dressed as a policeman was beating and walking two people dressed as Muslims with their hands bound. 

Assam’s chief minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has repeatedly given hate speeches and engaged in dog-whistling against minorities. 

Hindu extremists beat up Muslim men over Instagram comment

A video circulated by Hindu militant group Bajrang Dal shows their supporters beating up Muslim men in Nanded, Maharashtra. The Muslim men were beaten up over an alleged comment on Instagram about Mughal ruler Aurangazeb. 

Hindu supremacists are known for spreading misinformation about time periods of Muslim rule, characterizing all Muslim rulers as barbaric invaders.

Hindu supremacist leaders peddle anti-Muslim conspiracy theories

In Nagpur, Maharashtra, Hindu supremacist group Antarrashtriya Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia delivered an inflammatory speech demonizing Muslims. In Hoshiyarpur, Punjab, Hindu extremist monk Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati peddled fear and hate against Muslims. In Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, a leader from the Hindu militant group Vishwa Hindu Parishad peddled anti-Muslim conspiracy theories stoking fear and hatred against Muslims.

Police open fire at alleged “cattle smuggler,” victim sustains bullet wound

In BJP-ruled Uttarakhand’s Haridwar, police fired gunshots at an alleged “cattle smuggler,” who sustained a bullet injury in his leg. 

The incident is the latest in an ongoing trend of violent attacks against predominantly Muslim cattle traders by law enforcement. Over the last few months, multiple such injuries have occurred due to police firing.
