In the space of a mere three decades hateful and divisive Hindu nationalist slogans have propelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from a fringe political party to a national party to India’s ruling party…. In the six years since Narendra Modi led the party to victory in the 2014 elections, the BJP ruled government has chipped away at the rights of Muslims and cracked down on its critics, including political opponents, journalists, and human rights activists…. It’s little wonder famous Indian personalities, such as novelist Arundhati Roy, are warning “the situation in India is approaching genocidal,” a view shared also by prominent scholar in conflict and violence Dr. Gregory Stanton – who warned recently that “preparation for genocide is definitely underway in India,” adding, “The persecution of Muslims in Assam and Kashmir is the stage just before genocide. The next stage is extermination – that’s what we call a genocide.”…

An Indian man died after being beaten by police on video. One year later, no one has been held accountable.
When riots broke out in India’s capital in late February last year, Faizan…. rushed out to find his mother, who had been participating in a nearby sit-in to protest the country’s new citizenship law. His mother got home safely. Faizan did not. That afternoon, half a dozen policemen in helmets and riot gear converged on the 23-year-old Faizan, a meat-shop worker. Wielding batons and wooden sticks, they first beat him, repeatedly striking his head, and then taunted a group of injured men – including Faizan – to sing the national anthem. The assault was caught on multiple videos…. He died at a hospital the following day. The postmortem report detailed 20 wounds on his body and said he died as a result of a head injury…. The family says…. Faizan might have lived if he had received immediate medical care and not been detained. In March, the police told a court that the closed-circuit TV camera at the police station where Faizan was held for over 24 hours was not functional….

Muslim youth stabbed in Mangaluru by Bajrang Dal goons for traveling with Hindu girl
A group of Bajrang Dal men allegedly attacked and stabbed a man, who was travelling to Bengaluru in a private bus along with his female friend, near Pumpwell here on Thursday night. The Mangaluru city police arrested four members of the Bajrang Dal on Friday and booked them for rioting, promoting enmity between communities, assault and attempt to murder…. “The incident occurred around 9.30 pm on Thursday when a group of Bajrang Dal members stopped the bus in which the two were travelling, and assaulted and stabbed the man. The woman, aged 23, also has suffered injuries,” the commissioner said. The arrested are Balachandra (28) from Attavar, Dhanush Bhandary (25) from Kanduka, Jayaprashanth (27) from Shaktinagar and Anil Kumar (38) from Urwa. Dhanush, a history-sheeter, is facing four cases of murder. “In the last three months, as many as four such cases of attack have taken place. We are investigating into who instigated them to assault the duo,” the police commissioner said.…
