Indian American Muslim Council congratulates President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris
November 09, 2020
The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, congratulates President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for their historic victory in the Presidential elections. We look forward to working with the incoming administration to bring peace and healing, both in the US and around the world. IAMC has urged Indian Americans to be bridges of understanding and dialogue and to eschew hate and acrimony.
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’s historic election as the first woman, and woman of color and first individual of South Asian descent to hold the second highest office in the land, is a proud moment for all Indian Americans. All of us at IAMC are elated at her inspirational achievement. Her life story is sure to inspire millions of girls and all people of color to aspire to reach greater heights in this land of opportunity.
IAMC has also congratulated all the Congresspersons and Senators who have been elected to office in the last elections. We hope the new Congress will usher in an era of constructive dialogue and forward looking engagement, to deal with the great challenges facing our country and the world.
We call on the incoming administration as well as Congress to lead the international community in seeking redress for the persecuted millions around the world. While we welcome a strong bilateral relationship between India and the US, we urge both countries to make human rights, religious freedom and the rule of law the underpinning of this strategic relationship.
The rapidly deteriorating situation of minorities in India calls for decisive action from the international community. We hope America will lead the way in holding accountable egregious violators of human rights and religious freedom.
IAMC is the largest advocacy organization representing Indian American Muslims in the United States, dedicated to promoting the common values of pluralism, tolerance, and respect for human rights that form the basis of the world’s two largest secular democracies – the United States and India.
