Modi Government Fails To End Violence Against Muslims In Tripura State
The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) condemns the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for its utter failure to end the violence against Muslims in the northeastern state of Tripura. For a week mosques, homes, businesses, shops, and other establishments have continue to be attacked, vandalized, burnt and destroyed without any intervention from the federal or state government.
It is outrageous that the international community, including US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, other world leaders from the G20 countries, and even the Pope in Rome, failed to raise the issue of Tripura’s violence in their meetings with Modi over last week. It has also been proved that the claim by Tripura Police that no mosques have been damaged is a total lie.
It is condemnable that the Tripura government has made no arrests even though the involvement of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, Hindu terrorist organizations affiliated to Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the anti-Muslim has been abundantly established.
Indian Cricket Captain Criticizes Islamophobic Attacks On Muslim Cricketer
The IAMC applauds India’s Cricket team captain Virat Kohli for issuing a public statement in support of Indian cricketer, Mohammad Shami, who was brutally trolled last week after India lost a cricket match. Not only was Shami unfairly blamed for an overall failure of the team, he was also accused by thousands on twitter for deliberately losing the match to archrival Pakistan, which the Hindu extremists also consider as a perpetual enemy of the nation.
At a press conference Kohli said “attacking someone over their religion is the most pathetic thing that a human being can do.” The BJP rule over India during the last seven years has so vitiated civil life that not even Muslim celebrates, be they from movie stars or cricketers, are spared Islamophobic hate speech.
In Election Speech Indian Home Minister Attacks Muslims’ Right To Practice Their Faith
The IAMC condemns India’s Home Minister Amit Shah, a known Islamophobia who has called Muslims “termites” in the past, for his dog whistle to Hindu extremists by criticizing Muslims for offering Friday prayers publicly. In a campaign speech last week, Shah blamed the opposition Congress party for allowing Muslims to pray on the streets, and said that the BJP had put an end to the practice.
This is of a piece with the long-standing anti-Muslim hate speech from Prime Minister Modi and his deputy, Shah, who have for years directed hate and violence against Muslims by portraying India’s largest minority community as less-than-humans.
