SIT Books Law Student, Three friends For Extortion in Chinmayanand Case
BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand was on Friday morning arrested by the special investigation team probing a student’s rape allegation against the former Union minister.… Following his arrest in the rape case, Chinmayanand was taken for a medical examination. The case is being investigated by the SIT set up by the Uttar Pradesh Police on the directions of the Supreme Court.
The case came to light after the victim went missing on August 24, a day after she posted a video on social media, alleging that a “senior leader” was harassing and threatening to kill her. Her father filed a complaint with police, accusing 72-year-old Chinmayanand of sexually harassing her, a charge refuted by the former Union minister’s lawyer who claimed it was a “conspiracy” to blackmail him.
On August 27, the police booked Chinmayanand under Sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The student had last week given a pen drive containing 43 videos to the SIT to back her accusation against Chinmayanand.…
