US Government Ignores Unending Mass Violence Against Muslims In India’s Tripura State

The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) urges President Joe Biden’s Administration to immediately condemn the mass violence against Muslims that has been raging for the last five days in the Indian state of Tripura, in which half a dozen mosques have been set on fire by Hindu extremists allied to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

It is deeply disappointing that the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his Department of State have failed to publicly condemn the ongoing targeted violence against India’s religious minorities being carried out by thousands of Hindu extremists belonging to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal, which are the militias of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a 96-year-old pro-Nazi fascist organization that wants to convert India into a Hindu nation by carrying out a genocide of its 200 million Muslims.

The IAMC urges Secretary Blinken to immediately condemn the violence in Tripura and convey to the Indian Government unequivocally that the US will not tolerate such violence against Muslims.

Indian Supreme Court Orders Independent Probe In Modi Government’s Hacking Of Critics’ Phones

The IAMC applauds the Supreme Court of India for ordering an independent investigation into the widespread hacking of the phones of human rights defenders, journalists and critics of the Indian Government. Although the Modi Government has denied it was involved in the hacking, the use of the Pegasus software, which is only licensed by its Israeli manufacturer to governments and their agencies, can only mean that the government’s denial is false.

On October 27 (Monday), the Supreme Court rejected the Modi Government’s contention that it could not give details of the hacking for national security concerns. Instead, the court appointed a committee comprising three technical members and supervised by retired Supreme Court judge Justice R V Raveendran to conduct a “thorough inquiry” into allegations of use of Pegasus software for unauthorized surveillance.

Facebook Must Designate Hindu Extremist Outfits As ‘Dangerous Organizations’

The IAMC supports the demand of India’s main opposition party, Indian National Congress, that Facebook designate the VHP and the Bajrang Dal as “dangerous organizations.” Both these organizations have openly indulged in violence against Muslims and Christians across India, including killing members of the religious minorities, attacking their places of worship, and setting on fire their businesses and homes.

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had in the past named both these outfits as “militant organizations.”
