#IndiaMuslimGenocideAlert Trends On Twitter
The hashtag #IndiaMuslimGenocideAlert trended on Twitter on April 12 as activists, journalists, and civilians from India and across the world took part in a Twitter storm, sharing harrowing images of threats Muslims face from Hindu extremists on a day-to-day basis.
“In BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh, a massive crowd of Hindu radicals with swords, axe in front of a mosque, playing Islamophobic songs with police being spectators. Can the world ignore the silence of Narendra Modi?” tweeted globally renowned India-based Washington Post columnist Rana Ayyub, sharing a video of the incident.
Khaled Beydoun, a prominent US-based Muslim activist, shared an image from Karauli, Rajasthan, where Hindu terrorists recently attacked Muslim shops and homes in an outbreak of communal violence. “They burned down the Muslim’s shop. The Hindu’s shop is untouched. This is Hindutva terror in India,” he wrote.
“Constantly receiving videos of the #RamNavmi rally violence in Gujarat’s #Himmatnagar. Look at how right wing rioters are hurling stones, causing ruckus in Muslim dominated Ashraf Nagar,” wrote Tarushi Aswani, an Indian journalist.
Journalist CJ Werleman shared a video of a Hindu supremacist crowd wielding swords, and soon after retweeted an Indian civilian’s response: “These are not Hindus. They are terrorists. We do not claim these people as Hindus.”
As violence against Indian Muslims ramps up by the day, the threat of a genocide against a minority of 200 million people becomes increasingly imminent.
BJP Leader Booked For Anti-Muslim Hate Speech During Ram Navami
As reports of anti-Muslim violence and hate speeches continue to surface across India after Ram Navami, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raja Singh was booked by Hyderabad police for taking part in a Hindu extremist rally and spewing hate speech during the festival.
Singh had claimed that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is a vitriolic Hindu supremacist, would “use a bulldozer to clean the country” and “turn it into a Hindu Rashtra (nation) very soon.”
His disturbing remarks come on the heels of the targeted bulldozing of Muslim-owned homes and properties in Madhya Pradesh state, which Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan declared to be “illegal” structures.
Singh was also caught dancing and singing anti-Muslim songs, including the lyrics, “He who doesn’t take Ram’s name, have to drive him out of the country.”
“The speech and the song, while addressing a gathering at Begumbazar Chatri, had unparliamentary words and contents that could likely create enmity between different religious communities,” Assistant Commissioner of Police R. Satish Kumar said regarding the filing of the police report.
Asaduddin Owaisi Slams Madhya Pradesh CM For Bulldozing Muslim Homes, Shops
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi criticized Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for his blatant discriminatory attack on Muslim homes and shops by demolishing them with bulldozers. Chouhan claimed that the 45-50 homes being bulldozed belonged to “rioters,” punishing the Muslim minority for responding to the harassment and provocation of a Hindu extremist rally in Khargone city.
“It is clearly state-complicit violence and a grave violation of the Geneva Convention. The government gives permission for the procession. How does the government let violence erupt in the procession?” Owaisi said.
He further slammed the illegal bulldozing of Muslim properties, saying, “Under what law the government of Madhya Pradesh has demolished the houses of the Muslim community? It clearly shows CM’s biased attitude towards the Muslim minority.”
Owaisi also pointed out the hypocrisy of banning Indian Muslims from selling and consuming meat while refusing to stop exporting meat as a nation.
“Why don’t you ban the export of meat? You don’t ban it because you get the dollar,” he said. “Will the country run on the basis of faith or the Constitution? We are telling the BJP and RSS that the way that you are taking the country, the nation is becoming weak.”
Karnataka Police Refuse To File Complaint Over Boycott Of Muslim Vendors
As India’s law enforcement caves even further to the influence of Hindu extremism, police in Karnataka state have refused to file a complaint against Hindu extremist leader Chandru Moger, who made a public call to boycott Muslim traders.
In a tweet, Moger urged Hindus not to purchase fruits from Muslim vendors and to buy only from Hindus, claiming that Muslims had a monopoly over the fruit market. Despite the clear hate-mongering, police refused to file a complaint against Moger by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) spokesperson Sheikh Zia Nomani.
Nomani reported that Police Inspector Balraj claimed that Moger had a right to “freedom of speech.” Rather than do the job of maintaining order and justice, Balraj further said that “the accused party may react and the situation can turn volatile.”
“We told Balraj sir that freedom of speech can’t be exploited. Then he said they’ll take legal opinion regarding the matter. We told him it’s a cognisable offence because here they’re talking economic boycott of Muslims, which is also part of genocide according to article 2 of [the United Nations],” said Nomani.
However, police continued to maintain that the offense was “non-cognisable” and refused to take any action.
“Either there is no government in Karnataka or the government is supporting them in such activities… After getting provoked by Moger’s speech, if anyone causes turmoil against Muslims, then who will be accountable. Will the police take responsibility for it?” said Nomani.
