Muslim man beaten to death while in Gujarat police’s custody

Irshad Sheikh, a resident of Surat was allegedly beaten to death by cops while in custody at Chowk Bazar Police Station in Surat on Wednesday. “Officers from Chowk Bazar Police Station called my husband Tuesday morning and asked him to come and report at the police station regarding a case. I kept on waiting till the Wednesday morning, but we received his dead body on that day,” the deceased’s wife Saba Khatoon said. Saba alleges that the police subjected her husband to third-degree torture in custody, which resulted in his death. “Police killed my husband,” she said….
‘Don’t shout’: Dalit child ‘raped, killed, forcibly burnt’ at Delhi crematorium

….Tara (assumed name), a nine-year-old Dalit girl, was allegedly gangraped, murdered and forcibly cremated at the Delhi Cantt crematorium on August 1…. Radhey Shyam is a priest at the crematorium…. An hour later, when Tara didn’t return, her mother stepped out to see…. “I went in and found my baby lying there, dead,” she recalled. “Her lips were torn, her tongue was blue, her eyes would not close, and she had bruises on left arm. Her shirt and undies were wet. I couldn’t bear to look at her.” In a moment, Radhey Shyam walked over and told her that Tara had been electrocuted while she was filling water. “I didn’t believe him,” she said. “Why were there so many bruises on her then?”…. Radhey Shyam locked the crematorium gate from the inside. “He told me, “Don’t shout. Don’t scream. What had to happen has happened. Now why are you screaming? Let’s finish this. And then he set my child on fire.”… Radhey Shyam reportedly confessed to raping Tara. “First he said electrocution had killed her,” Nitin claimed. “But when we slapped him around a bit, he begged for forgiveness and said, ‘Yes, I made a mistake, please forgive me.'”…
Pastor in Northern India Receives Death Threats from Radicals

… a pastor and his family have been harassed and threaten with death by radical Hindu nationalists. The incident took place in the Gaya District of India’s Bihar state. On July 27, two men confronted Pastor Dhiraj and his wife, Ravita, at their church in Fatehpur. The men demanded Pastor Dhiraj and his wife leave the area or they would kill him and demolish his church. These men returned the next day, July 28, and again threatened Pastor Dhiraj. On July 29, the men returned when Pastor Dhiraj was not home and confronted his wife. They asked for Pastor Dhiraj’s whereabouts and then left. At 7 p.m., a mob of nearly 25 to 30 people returned and attempted to break into the pastor’s home. Members of the mob climbed on top of the church and parsonage building threatening Ravita with sticks and guns. Ravita called for help and the mob was driven away by nearby villagers…. no action has been taken against the mob or the individuals who threatened and harassed Pastor Dhiraj and his family….
